Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Ascendly ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Ascendly mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our App. By using Ascendly, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Photos & Camera Access: When you use the face scan, Glow Up, or AI Coach features, photos you provide are sent over HTTPS to our servers and forwarded to Google's Gemini API and/or Anthropic's Claude API for analysis or image generation. Photos are processed in-memory and are never written to disk or stored on any server. A copy of your photo is saved locally on your device for scan history and can be deleted at any time in the App's settings.
Face Analysis Data: Scan results including scores, ratings, and AI-generated analysis text are stored exclusively on your device using local storage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Personal Preferences: Your gender selection, age, routine preferences, and app settings are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this information.
Purchase Information: In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat as a subscription management platform, which may receive anonymized transaction data from Apple. We never have access to your payment method, credit card number, or Apple ID credentials.
Analytics & Product Usage: We use PostHog to understand how users interact with the App so we can improve it. PostHog receives anonymous event data, including which onboarding step you are on (e.g. welcome, age input, name input, rating prompt) so we can identify where users drop off, plus screen views, button taps, scan completion, and crash diagnostics. We do not send your photos, scan scores, names, email addresses, or any other personal information to PostHog. PostHog may assign a randomly-generated anonymous identifier to your install.
App Tracking Transparency (iOS): When you first open the App, iOS shows a system prompt asking whether you allow the App to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. Your choice is respected. We currently do not perform any cross-app or cross-website tracking — analytics are limited to first-party usage events inside the App as described above.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use information solely to:
- Process your photos to generate face analysis results
- Provide personalized improvement suggestions and routines
- Manage your subscription status
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing to third parties, user profiling, facial recognition, identity verification, or any purpose other than providing the core App functionality. Results are generated for entertainment and self-improvement purposes only and do not constitute medical, psychological, or professional advice.
2a. Consent for Data Processing
Before your first face scan, the App displays a data sharing notice that explains: (1) your photo will be sent to our servers and processed using Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude AI services, (2) your photo is never stored on any server, and (3) results are saved only on your device. You must explicitly consent to this before any photo is transmitted. You may revoke consent at any time by discontinuing use of the scan feature.
3. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties. The only third-party services that receive or process your data are:
- Google (Gemini API) — Photos submitted for face analysis or Glow Up image generation are sent via encrypted HTTPS to Google's Gemini API. Google states that paid Gemini API content is not used to train or improve Google products and is processed transiently. Google's data handling is governed by Google's API additional terms and Google's privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — Photos and text used in the face analysis report and the AI Coach feature are sent via encrypted HTTPS to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic states that API content is not used for model training and is processed transiently. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their commercial terms and privacy policy.
- PostHog — Receives anonymous product analytics events (screen views, taps, scan completion, etc.). No photos, scan scores, or personally identifiable information are sent to PostHog. PostHog acts as a data processor on our behalf.
- RevenueCat — Receives anonymized purchase and subscription metadata from Apple for subscription management only. No photos or analysis data are shared with RevenueCat.
4. Data Storage & Security
All personal data (scan results, preferences, routines, progress history) is stored locally on your device only. We do not maintain user accounts, databases of personal information, or cloud storage of user data. Data transmitted during face analysis is encrypted using industry-standard HTTPS/TLS protocols.
5. Data Retention
Photos submitted for analysis are processed in-memory on our servers and on our AI providers' API servers, and are deleted immediately — no copies are ever written to disk or retained on any server we control. A local copy of your photo is stored on your device for scan history purposes and persists until you delete it through the App's settings or by uninstalling the App. Analysis results and all other local data persist until you delete them through the App or uninstall. We retain no copies of your data on any server.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: All your data is stored locally on your device and is fully accessible to you at all times.
- Delete your data: You can delete all data from Settings > Delete All Data within the App. Uninstalling the App also permanently removes all local data.
- Opt out: You can stop using the face scan feature at any time. Camera and photo library access can be revoked in your device's Settings.
Since we do not store personal data on our servers, there is no server-side data to request deletion of.
7. Children's Privacy
Ascendly is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to address the situation.
8. International Users
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, please note that photo processing may involve transferring data to servers located in the United States. By using the App, you consent to this transfer. We process data based on your consent (which you provide by using the scan feature) and our legitimate interest in providing the App's services.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over your information at all times.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
